Learning

SCHOOL & ADULT GROUPS

At Malton Museum, we are committed to sharing our knowledge and offering enriching learning experiences.

We visit schools, adult groups, libraries and specialist interest groups with various learning packages.

For schools, we offer learning packages responding to the following curriculum areas, Roman, Local Study and are at present developing a Prehistory resource.

We also visit after school clubs and libraries with our workshops. Our current workshops are Hands on History, Be a History Detective: Learning through Objects and Drama Sessions.

For adult groups, we are able to visit you or may be able to accommodate you at the museum. We offer three interactive sessions, enabling participants to get hands on with real and replica objects.

Schools

At Malton Museum, we are passionate about delivering an insightful and relevant learning programme. We have been visiting schools from Scarborough to Leeds and further afield for over 5 years with our Roman Legacy sessions and accompanying handling boxes.

More recently we have developed a new resource linked to the local study area of the curriculum and are currently producing a prehistory package.

Our offer to schools -

• The Romans- a visit to your school with the Roman Legacy, costume box, and handling box or hire the costume and handling box as a stand-alone resource.
• Local Study topic- a free digital resource “The Marvellous Map of Malton” with additional handling box and costume box available for loan.
• Prehistory- a digital resource and handling box is currently under development. Available September 2017.
• After school clubs- we are pleased to visit with the following sessions: Hands on History, Be a History Detective, and Drama workshops using objects from the collections.

Feedback from teachers

Great hands-on visit. The children really enjoyed interacting with the resources.
LKS2 teacher/ Head-teacher. 2016 (Roman Legacy)

Very well pitched and appropriate level. Well, organised – all children were well engaged. Informative, supported and extended the children’s learning. Yr 3 teachers 2016.

Adults

Sharing our collection is at the heart of everything we do. Our learning team is happy to visit local libraries, support groups, WIs and adult interest groups, taking objects out as part of the outreach service. We encourage groups to combine our visit with a follow-up trip to the museum. We are willing to discuss individual requirements for a group and will produce a tailor- made session where applicable.
