Roman wine was very different to the wine you see here in this shop.

Soldiers drank a wine called posca, made from vinegar and herb infused water. This strange concoction got rid of the bad taste and bacteria in local water. It tasted so bad that generals thought it was a sign of good discipline when a soldier drank it!
