River…Road…Railway Tour 23 August

Join Malton Museum's friendly and knowledgeable guides for an evocative walk along a stretch of riverbank via Navigation Wharf, now a forgotten backwater, telling the story of Malton’s 18th and 19th century transport and trade, and life before the motor car.

This tour explores the 2000 year history of horses in Malton and Norton, especially their importance to racing. You will hear fascinating stories about the horses, their owners and one of the most successful trainers of all time, as well as the tale of the vicar whose opposition to horseracing was the downfall of Malton's racecourse.

Malton has a long and proud history of brewing, from the earliest times to the present day. Join our friendly and knowledgeable guides on a walk through Malton's beery past.

Join noted historian and author Dr Simon Elliott to hear about his latest book, 'The African Emperor'. Afterwards there will be the chance to ask questions and get a book signed by the author.
