Walking Tour: Tour of Orchard Fields with Dr Pete Wilson

Saturday 22nd July 2017 11am - 12.30noon repeated 2pm - 3.30pm

Join Dr Pete Wilson of Rarey  Archaeology to learn more about the hidden history of the site. Today, the peaceful site is a place for walkers and enjoying the birdsong. However this was not always the case, once home to the Roman soldiers the Fort was a place bursting with life.

Much of the defences of Roman fort at Malton (Delgovicia) survive as earthworks within the area of Orchard Fields, although the western parts are lost having been destroyed by the construction of Malton Castle and subsequently a Jacobean Mansion. The tour will examine the visible earthworks and put the fort into the wider context of Roman Malton and Norton.

Please note this tour is a walking tour and the ground is uneven under foot.
