Family Activity: a guided tour of the Roman fort site

The activities are designed for families with children between the ages of 6 and 14; children need to be accompanied by at least one adult.

This session last approximately 90 minutes.

The price of £4.50 per adult or child includes an information pack per family.

The museum will be hosting two days of Roman activities for families during the school holidays.

Did you know that the Romans lived in Malton for over 400 years?

Find out some amazing facts about what went on at the fort site and in the town which grew up alongside the fort.

Was life difficult for the soldiers on the fort? What did they eat and drink?

We will tell you about some of the characters who lived at the fort and other stories which help us to understand what life might have been like all those years ago.

How do archaeologists interpret what they find underground?

On day 2 you can have a go at being an archaeologist with some real Roman finds.

Meeting point
Please meet by the entrance to Orchard Field on Old Maltongate.

PLEASE NOTE
There are no toilet or refreshment facilities on site at the fort.
The ground is very uneven in places so please wear suitable footwear and take care when moving about.
In hot weather, there is little shade, please bring some water to drink with you.
