The art of the shield: Mile chariot burial

Following on from the highly successful talk by the excavation and research team from MAP Archaeological Projects Ltd, Professor Melanie Giles will explore how this shield was made, decorated and used. She will unfold some of the mysteries of its decoration, explaining links between this object and other icons of Celtic Art, including shields from other graves in the Arras cemeteries. Finally, she will consider who it was buried with and what this might tell us about the identity of the Mile charioteer.
